Bangool Tomato (AKA: Cherry Tomato)
Shin Goo / Kim Hyang Gi

The weight of poverty sits heavy in Cherry Tomato, the heartrending debut film from television producer Jeong Yeong Bae (Santamaria). Starring veteran actor Shin Goo (2009 Lost Memories) and adorable child actress Kim Hyang Ki, Cherry Tomato (a.k.a Bangool Tomato) peeks into the poverty-ridden lives of an elderly man and a young girl living on the fringe. More than just a tearjerker, Cherry Tomato takes on a serious issue facing society, addressing the stark gap between rich and poor and the insurmountable difficulties that weigh down on the less fortunate.
Elderly porter Park Gu (Shin Goo) barely scrapes out a living for himself and his six-year-old granddaughter Da Seong (Kim Hyang Ki). Though life is tough, Da Seong never complains about the hunger or her vision difficulties, because she knows her grandfather is already doing his best. Their situation only get worse when Da Seong's deadbeat father (Kim Yeong Ho) returns suddenly and steals what little money they have, and redevelopers trying to force out village residents destroy Park Gu's bicycle cart. Driven to the edge, Park Gu decides to confront construction company president Kap Su (Kim Byung Choon), only to find he's not home. Park and Da Seong end up sneaking into Kap Su's mansion where they experience their first tastes of luxury. ~from yesasia~
